NEW YEAR’S FITNESS RESOLUTIONS

It is coming to that time of year, and the dread question is: “do you have any New Year’s Resolutions?” Here at Body Aid, we want to ensure you have the correct answer to that question and that the New Year’s Resolutions you decide to make are beneficial not in 2023 but for years to come!

What Should My New Year’s Resolution Be?

Please be specific; many people have the right intention of setting New Year’s Resolutions but unfortunately fail the first hurdle: not being transparent about how they will achieve their goal. So, instead of saying, “I’m going to exercise more,” or “I’m going to get fit,” think about how you attain that goal. So, you want to improve your fitness; how will you do that? What does your fitness plan look like?

Well, nothing is more powerful and beneficial than learning a new skill. You’re here looking for fitness new year’s resolutions, so why not consider qualifying in the fitness sector? Making learning a new skill is New Year’s Resolution that could benefit your life long term; whether you choose to do a level 2 personal trainer course or a gym instructor course, you can turn them into a side hustle or use the knowledge you’ve learnt to improve your fitness performance.

1. CONSISTENCY

Did you know it 66 days of consistency to make a new hobby a habit? So, before you plan anything, make sure you can make time every day to complete the task; the task itself doesn’t have to be the same each day; you just have to show up! For example, you want to make working out a new hobby, then some sort of exercise every day, and on the days when you should be resting, do a low-intensity workout, such as a walk.

2. REALISTIC TARGETS

As we mentioned, you’ve got to walk before you can run! If you’re setting unattainable goals, you will likely not maintain the habits that help you reach the destination since you already know it is near impossible or at least feels that way. For example, if you want to learn how to become a personal trainer, you will need to start a level 2 before moving on to levels 3, 4, etc. We’ve all got to start somewhere, and as long as you’re beginning, it doesn’t matter where you’re starting from!

3. TRACK YOUR PROGRESS

It can be easy to forget how far you’ve come, but implementing tracking systems within your new fitness journey will inspire you! Each time you feel you haven’t made enough or progress quickly, take a step back and look at your progress tracker. You will be shocked by how far you’ve come. Tracking your progress also works for those days when you don’t want to turn up; you’ll be able to remind yourself how many times you’ve turned up for yourself before, and you will want to maintain your consistency!

4. BUDDY UP

Having a friend or loved one with you will make it far more fun, and it is also a factor of accountability; you might not want to always show up for yourself, but you will for a friend! Just make sure it is a friend that you enjoy seeing frequently!

5. REWARD YOURSELF

You must enjoy yourself while trying to progress with a fitness goal; if you are not enjoying it, you probably won’t continue. One of the easiest ways to make it more enjoyable is to reward yourself for reaching a milestone! Can you finally run one mile without stopping? Fantastic, reward yourself with a new piece of running gear! Remember shouldn’t feel like a chore but rather a fun activity!

A QUICK SUMMARY

If you take one from this, consistency is your best friend and is the primary tool for achieving your fitness goals. Do not get impatient with yourself, and you will get to where you get to soon enough, enjoy the journey and reward yourself from time to time, maybe even reward yourself with the best thing, learning a new skill!
