Last weekend myself (Dan Ruscillo) and fellow tutor Darren Mitchell got ready for a weekend of Sports Massage. The weekend would be an information overload for students but we hoped alot of fun! It turned out to be a fantastic weekend with everyone working together and putting in the effort, with a few laughs along the way!
The first thing we looked at was ‘house keeping’. Registration details, assessment plans (as we all like to know how and when we are being assessed!)
Then a quick pit stop for some tea and biscuits and we cracked on with a few ice breaking activities. In small groups deciding upon what we expected from the course and the skills and practices we hope to gain. It was really encouraging to see straight away that everyone started thinking outside of the box and
not just ‘massage techniques’. with students starting to think about the whole process and the type of service they will aim to provide. So we were off to a fantastic start!
The weekend was mainly based around client interviews/assessments/treatment plans and the basic massage techniques such as effleurage and petrissage. Everyone was like duck to water. Really grasping everything about the aims and targets of massage and the basic techniques. As tutors, myself and Darren could not have been happy. Ok a few tweaks were needed and still are but considering its been the first practical weekend the progress was and has been astounding. Even the dreaded towelling of a client was tackled and mastered!
So we look forward to the next weekend on Septmebr 20th/21st. Looking at Post treatmenr care plans, more massage techniques and a couple of exams!
