Hi guys, Josh here again for another instalment of what I hope you find to be useful and insightful information.
First of all a Happy New Year to you all and I hope you all have a prosperous 2015! If like me you had a restful and enjoyable Christmas chances are you overindulged on all things food and drink. Am I right?…. Of course I am. Anyway enough of all things Christmas, let’s get down to business.
Heading into every New Year I always carry a distinct level of optimism and use the Christmas Period as a time for reflection on the previous year. Up, downs, epiphanies, revelations. You name it I reflect upon it.
So.. Usually whilst most people are down in the dumps about January and what it has in store I set the wheels in motion again for the coming year so by February 1st whilst most people are starting to accept the fact that Christmas is done and Summer feels like a lifetime away I’m already well into my stride.
Traditionally the New Year is a great time to be involved within the industry because of the “New Year’s Resolution gym goers” and you’ll often hear the phase “New Year, New Year” everywhere, social media, the media, friends, family, it’s like a yearly epidemic that sweeps the nation for 6-8 weeks and then disappears faster than Usain Bolt on a running track.
I’ve never bought into any of that “New Year, New You” stuff and you shouldn’t either. (Unless you want to of course, I’m not here to tell you what to do). I was approached by a magazine recently in regards to running a “New Year, New You” top fitness tips article. When we got to talking my 1st question to the guy interviewing me was, “Why do you need a New Year to change your life?” to which he looked dumbfounded like I had sworn at him he or something.
It may seem like a good idea to start something on January 1st “INSERT APPLICABLE YEAR” but it’s not the end of the world if you don’t.
I would never begrudge anyone looking to start something in the New Year and as part of my job I’d do my upmost to help BUT why is it imperative that you start in the New Year?
What are your reasons for change?
Have you really sat and thought about it?
Have you set clear and concise SMART Goals?
Are you getting caught up in the hype?
Then again I’ve always been bit weird, I’ve never really conformed with society, I like Mondays, I like the rain, I do things Yesterday instead of Tomorrow.
So for me personally its very much “Same Me, Different Year”… Business as usual, 2014 was a great year, so rather than change I’m just going to build upon it and use it as a Springboard into 2015 and make this year as good as the rest.
You don’t need a January to change your life, only a day ending in D.A.Y.
There’s no better time than today
DON’T GIVE UP, whether it’s a starting a new business or a new fitness regime, you’ll get there, remember Rome wasn’t built in a day and you weren’t either so don’t expect things to change in a day.
Make sure you’re doing it for the right reasons and not just doing it because Joe Bloggs down the road is as well.
You have 364 other opportunities to make a change; it’s not exclusive to 1st January. If you can remember all of the above you might just find that you can make a change at any given moment and not just the 1st January.
Ps. I want to give my friend and JGFitness athlete Leon Man a big shout-out for enrolling and completing the Body Aid Solutions Kettlebell and Spinning courses recently. Body Aid Solutions helping team JGFitness become better professional’s #OneRepAtATime
It’s been emotional guys, until next time.
